July Favorites // 7 Things

Summer is flying by and July is basically over... Moving on to August (my birthday is coming!!)

I am so lucky I get to dedicate a life & career to scoping out great skincare and beauty products or others are introducing them to me! Life is so good! Being passionate about skincare, I am always trying new products that are good for our bodies! ie: non-toxic, organic, natural etc, etc... then to turn around and share with you all and of course, friends, family and my clients my personal opinion, educate and potentially help someone. So here are a few of my favorites I have been lucky to use, buy or added to my wish list (Ahem! birthday wishes!)

1. Cosmedix Clarity Serum ($36) Introduced to me by my new job, I am a new fan of cosmedix! This gem is one of my newest favorite treatment products that I have used in a long time! If you suffer from acne or even a breakout here and there, basically anyone that breaks out ever.... this is for you! I unfortunately get hormonal breakouts around that time of the month and since post pregnancy and nursing, my skin has changed a bit. I dab a teeny tiny amount to the blemish and the next morning my the vagrant zit is healing and pretty much gone! It works fast without stinging or burning skin. Its gentle but very effective. I also like that it will fight hyperpigmentation. Best of all it is a natural product with all ingredients contained in the most pure form. No nasty chemicals or toxins here!

2. Schmidt's Bergamot Lime Deodorant ($9) Where do I even begin? My search for a non toxic deodorant that actually does what it's supposed to is finally over! Impressed to the moon and back. I will be writing a full review for Eco Diva Beauty in the coming weeks, so stay tuned! You will not want to miss it!

3. H&M's Sandal with Wedge Heel ($40) Not only is the price of these shoes comfortable but so are wearing them! They're inexpensive shoes that will last into fall with cute jeans and cut offs. I even would wear these to work, and I stand a lot! Cute, comfortable and affordable. Perfection!

4. Alima Pure Hellebore Shimmer Mineral Eyeshadow ($12.50) For whatever reason I am really picky about the color of my eyeshadow. I tend to keep to the basics and a select few colors... that's just me! But I adore Hellebore by Alima Pure. I've used it for the last few years since discovering the company. The eyeshadow is pure mineral, no fillers, toxins or other yuck stuff that's makes us sick... This is PURE beauty. The color is a subtle rosy gold that shimmers ever so delicately. I feel it makes my eyes pop and look wide awake. A favorite. A keeper.

5. Illume Cactus Verde Soy Candle ($22) I stumbled upon this candle while shopping at Anthropologie for a birthday gift for my sister and decided to buy it for her special day! I loved the scent so much, I went back the next day and got one for myself. It now graces my bedroom with its heavenly scent! I love the "go be lovely" script on the glass, a great reminder to look at everyday.

6. Dorothy Perkins Ivory and Navy Bird Tee ($21) I can never have enough t-shirts but dressing them up a bit with a pretty print adds a bit more interest and fun to the everyday. A shirt to dress up or down with. Perfect for the hot days we've had!

7. Beautycounter's Essential Face Collection ($185)I  know I definitely need to spend a bit of time writing out in detail my thoughts, and experience with these products... But I will say this: I was very fortunate for one of my friends who so generously loaned me her Essential Collection for me to try out myself. Let's just say I didn't want to give it back and am beyond impressed with Beautycounter the company and their incredible products. More to come on this!

Monday Musings // Quote of the Week

Happy start to this week! Last week was very busy as I mentioned last Monday... Started my new job, my son in daycare now and many other good life happenings! One of many highlights from last week was I was invited and attended a social at Beautycounter headquarters in Santa Monica! Have you all heard of this fantastic company? It was so much fun, educational and of course filled with beauty! I had a chance to meet and listen to the CEO and founder of Beautycounter who is on a mission to bring us all safer skin care and beauty products. Amazing company... More to come on Beautycounter soon!

Today I start the week here on DIB with a quote by Walt Whitman... Stay tuned for a yummy gluten & dairy free pudding, and some more fun and beauty headed your way this week! Have a great one!

Monday Musings // Quote of the Week

Hey all! Its MONDAY! As a quick intro to the week I'm sharing a beautiful quote as usual and adding some recent pins from my pinterest account... Things are changing up a bit in my world this week as I just went back to WORK! I'm super part time right now but hey its a big accomplishment when you've been a stay at home mom for over 1 1/2 years (not including maternity leave)... I'm totally ready though and very happy. I'm working at a beautiful certified green and organic boutique day spa as an esthetician of course, and loving every minute of it. Anyways lets keep the beauty flowing, and dwell in beauty everyone... Have a lovely week.

Summer Peach & Raspberry Crostada

I love Summer fruit! My favorite fruits of the whole year... Cherries, watermelon, nectarines and of course, peaches! Peaches remind me of my childhood and is probably why I love peach dessert more than anything! Growing up we always ate fresh, homegrown peaches from our garden in summertime. I can still see my mom and grandma in the kitchen slicing peaches for us to eat as a healthy snack or baking a juicy peach pie. It's only second nature to me to follow in their footsteps. I wish I had a peach tree and one day I will again, but for now I'm sticking to the Farmer's markets for the sweetest and of course organic option! I decided to make a Crostada for this peach treat. My sweet mother in law introduced me to crostadas a few years ago, and I've wanted to make one of my own ever since. My fruit crostada is a summer peach and raspberry mixture. The peaches make the dessert sweet and juicy while the raspberries add a bit of tang to the taste. The pastry is made a bit healthier and sorta rustic by the whole wheat. This is one tasty dish for a summer evening or heck, even breakfast! It won't give you a sugar rush, but I promise you'll love it nonethess. Refreshing. Simple. Sweet. Enjoy.

Summer Peach & Raspberry Crostada

Pastry Ingredients:

2 C. Whole Wheat Flour
3 tbsp. Coconut Sugar
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 Whole Lemon Zest
3/4 C. Coconut Oil
1 Egg Yolk
2 tsp. ice water (more if needed)

Filling Ingredients:

4-6 Large Peaches (white or yellow)
1 C. Raspberries
1/2 Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
3 tbsp. Coconut Sugar
2 tsp. instant tapioca

Glaze Ingredients:

1 Large Egg
1 tbsp. Water
2 tbsp. Coconut Sugar

Directions:

Personally I like to start with the filling, its quick and easy to set aside to allow all the yummy juices to absorb and mix together... Peel and slice the peaches (a easy way to peel the peaches is to set them in boiling water for a minute or two, quickly remove from the boiling water and pull back the skin! You'll be amazed how easily the skin comes off without taking any fruit along with it) Throw sliced peaches and fresh raspberries together, drizzle in the lemon juice, then add the cinnamon, coconut sugar and instant tapioca. Stir lightly and set aside.

Grab your mixer! Its time to make the pastry! Mix the flour, coconut sugar, salt and lemon zest together. Next add in the coconut oil... make sure it is at room temperature or semi cold, no runny or melted oil needed here! Turn the mixer on low to medium speed to make sure the coconut oil gets throughly mixed into the dry ingredients. The dry mix will start to take shape. Toss in the egg yolk and ice cold water. Add more iced water if the mixture is too dry, add as needed. You will know the pastry is done when it looks like dough, it will have shape to it and be on the dense side. Scrape the bowl of all remains and start to mold the dough into a ball. Place the ball of dough on a cutting or pastry board that is lightly sprinkled with flour. Start to press the dough down with your fingers to flatten it out. Now grab your rolling pin and start shaping the pastry into about an half an inch to an inch thick large circle, kinda like a pizza. Once you've reached the desired thickness, transfer the dough onto a large baking sheet or pan. Spoon the fruit filling on the center of the pastry dough. Leave enough room for the dough to fold over some of the fruit filling, usually 3 inches is sufficient. It will gently cradle the filling.

Once you have folded the overhanging sides of the pastry on top of the fruit filling, its time to whip up the glaze... In a small bowl thoroughly combine the egg, coconut sugar and water. With a pastry brush, gently sweep the wet mixture on top of the exposed pastry dough.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes

Bon App├ętit!

The Calming Power of Calendula

"Calendula is the silent secret beauty weapon
that harmoniously works with your skin and body to promote beautiful skin by healing it naturally"

What is Calendula?

Calendula is a plant, actually a flower sometimes known as a marigold. The flowers contain potent healing agents that are used in countless topical and internal forms to heal the skin and body naturally. Its lovely healing properties have been used in medicine and beauty for centuries!

How does Calendula work for you?

I always say to look at the ingredient list on what you buy to eat and what you apply to your body and skin! Look for the ingredient 'calendula' on the label and you're sure to have found a product that intends to soothe and heal your skin. Calendula is one of several herbal remedies that works well for any skin type. However, if you have very sensitive skin or tend to breakout, Calendula is the one for you! It will reduce redness, irritation and even fight bacteria, all the while it will protect your skin from harmful free radicals and environmental damage. Powerful stuff for such a pretty fragrant flower! Best of all calendula is safe, non-toxic and has no known side effects!

Monday Musings // Quote of the Week

Hi everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes lots of exclamation points for today!

I miss you all! I miss blogging here on DIB!

Life has been very, very interesting the last few months. I hit some pretty hard and tough points in my life where I just thought things couldn't go lower and they did. But you know what, I kept faith, love and trust in God in my heart and things are better than EVER! I am restored and renewed. My relationships are better, my health is better, my whole life is better and my mission to inspire others to dwell in beauty continues stronger than ever.

Today's quote is a psalm... I love psalms... Always have. So beautiful, poetic and so much heartfelt prayer within them. To be still. To Let Go. And let God... It is my daily prayer and it has gotten me through one of the toughest points of my life. I say it to myself daily to remind myself. Its my hope it touches you and reminds you to be still and let go, wherever life has you right now, good, bad or just in  between.

So Dwell in Beauty readers, I am back and will be posting a few times a week to start...

Lots of exciting things to come here.
