Monday Musings // Quote of the Week

How was everyone's weekend? I hope it was a happy one! Mine was nice, busy tackling a bit of spring cleaning and crossing off little to-dos around the house that just needed doing. Not always fun but has to be done! Friday was a fun day! I went shopping in Downtown LA for trim for a project I am working on. You know how Murphy's Law creeps in just when you go looking for something so specific and it seems impossible to find? Well, that was my day! I was on a definite hunt, and in the end succeeded!

This week I've got another yummy food recipe coming your way and an easy DIY window treatment project for your home! Stay tuned! Have a great Monday readers!

Rich Chocolate Brownies (Healthy & Guilt Free)

The other day I was craving chocolate... I mean really craving chocolate and I all I could fathom eating was a gooey-chewy old fashioned brownie! So I took it upon myself to whip up and bake a batch of gluten free- sugar free- guilt free- rich chocolate brownies. These are so easy to make and you probably have most of the ingredients in your pantry. And talk about yummy! My family couldn't contain themselves from scarfing down these healthy treats. My husband didn't believe that these weren't traditional brownies and said he actually liked my version better! My Rich Chocolate Brownies are moist, chewy and so delicious! It packs a punch with chocolate, so run and grab your Almond Milk to wash it down. Its full of fiber and even a good dose of protein. It'll satisfy your sweet and chocolate tooth while kicking traditional brownies to the curb! Your body and waistline will thank you too. Bon Appetit!

Rich Chocolate Brownies:

1 Large Sweet Potato
1 Ripe Banana
2 Eggs
3/4 C Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
1/2 C Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips (You can use Enjoy Life Chips)
2 Tbsp Almond Flour
2 Tbsp Coconut Flour
1 Tsp Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
1/2 C Honey
1/2 C Sunflower Seed Oil
Coconut Oil Cooking/Baking Spray

Before you begin mixing the ingredients, wash the sweet potato and slice a line through the skin with a sharp knife- place the sweet potato with the slit facing up in a microwavable safe dish with an inch or two of water. Cover the dish with a microwave safe plate or lid. Place in the microwave and set it to cook for about 10 minutes. You'll know the sweet potato is done when a knife or fork will pierce through to the bottom. Once its finished, remove the skins from the sweet potato (be careful, its hot!) and set it aside to cool.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl mash together the pre-cooked sweet potato and the banana together. Add the Almond Flour and Coconut Flour. Next add the eggs. Toss in the remaining dry ingredients. Pour the honey, vanilla and sunflower seed oil into the bowl. Mix all ingredients together thoroughly. Set aside. Take an 9x9 baking pan (I used glass) and spray the pan lightly with Coconut Oil Cooking/Baking Spray. Pour the brownie batter into the baking dish and place in the oven for 25-30 min. Insert a small knife or toothpick to ensure they come out clean and the brownies are done baking! Let the brownies cool before cutting into squares. Makes 12  2 inch brownie squares.

March Julep Maven

I am really thinking Julep's Maven boxes are just getting better and better? Or maybe its because we are transitioning to spring colors, happy and vibrant!? Whatever it is my Maven box for March was fantastic! I received two pretty nail colors as part of their Riviera collection; Soraphine, a milky sheer white and Myriam a bright exotic red! A little extra in my March Maven box was a stick of cotton candy :) and a delicious yes delicious lipgloss. I swear the lipgloss tastes like a hint of sweet candy! The color I was sent is Graceful, a sheer pale pink with Julep's Power Cell Complex that nourishes & heals lips. My favorite way to wear Graceful is to line my lips with Clover, a pinky Laura Mercier lipliner and then blend Graceful all over. Its such a pretty color that is natural yet quite sexy I must say! I am eyeing a couple other Julep lip glosses, Adored & Fearless. Thanks Julep for another great box!

True Nature Botanicals: Pacific Mist & Pacific Face Oil // My Review

Happy Friday everyone! TGIF right!? I had a busy, busy week but also very fun and eventful! Did you all see my Instagram post with the lovely and talented Sarah Richardson!? I am so blessed and happy that I have had the chance to meet and talk to for a few minutes one of my favorite interior designers of our time. I've admired her since her first show "Room Service" which started in the late 90s! I'm still pinching myself to make sure meeting her was really real! So now I am switching gears and today's post has been one in the making for a little while now, and I am so excited to finally share with you my thoughts on these two gems.

Some time back a lovely package from Marie Veronique Organics was delivered to my doorstep! I felt honored that they reached out to me and sent me two amazing products! The word "amazing" doesn't even cut it. The Pacific Mist and Pacific Face Oil are two skincare products sent from Heaven above! Or shall I say the Pacific Ocean (which is pretty heavenly itself!) The Pacific Line at MVO is primarily an Anti-Aging line. However I tend to think both of these products would suit other skin types aside from those concerned about skin aging. But lets face it ladies! Anti-aging at most ages if not all ages is important! Its all about preventive skin care, right? To give you a bit of a fill on what makes these two products so unique, I'll break them up individually.

Pacific Mist: How much do I love thee? Let me count the ways! I seriously could sing a sonnet about this facial mist. Its incredibly light and misty when spritzed but packs a strong punch with all the work and wonders it will do for your skin. I started using the mist in the morning as part of my daily skin prep routine before I put makeup on or not. Then I would spritz the mist on my skin at night once my face had been washed clean before applying the Pacific Face Oil. Instantly I was gratified by the scent of tuberose, star-jasmine and neroli essential oils (all of which are my go-to favorite scents in skincare and perfume) My skin also felt intensely hydrated and smooth. I could feel my skin drinking up this divine concoction. However, within a day or two, I noticed a change in my skin texture and clarity for the better. Now, this is saying a lot! For someone like me who is always trying new products and religiously takes care of my skin, this is not to go unnoticed! My skin radiates a glow of hydrated, healthy looking skin. The key ingredients of Green Tea/ White Tea Extracts, Sea Kelp and Sea Fennel extracts are chock full of antioxidants, skin rejuvenating complexes and repairs the skin throughout the day and night, all while holding and locking in moisture for younger feeling and looking skin! The Pacific Mist is a gold medal win in my book!

Pacific Face Oil: This little bottle of pure skin care magic goes hand in hand with the Pacific Mist. I like to think of it as the sidekick to the Pacific Mist. You just can't have one without the other! After spritzing my face with the mist, I put a few drops on my finger tips and gently press the Pacific Face Oil around my face and neck both morning and evening. A little goes a long way! Plus the mist helps the oils glide over my skin effortlessly. There was no tugging on my skin or waste of any of the product! My skin felt smooth and richly moisturized without feeling heavy or greasy! I could smell the healing properties of rose, neroli and jasmine essential oils while applying the face oil. Its such a therapeutic treat using the MVO products, feeling instantly refreshed and allowing yourself a moment to take care of "you". The Pacific Face oil is mainly contained of essential fatty acids and the two key players in the mix are Chia Seed & Kiwi Seed! So your skin cells are protected and nourished without toxins getting into the skin to wreak havoc. This really is essential in anti-aging! Great job MVO! It also controls your skin from over producing excess oil or sebum, by harnessing the power of Passion Fruit and Papaya! Remember I am always saying how important oil in your skin care regimen is! Last but not least two major players in the facial oil is MVO's unique Marine EFAs that are crucial in the function and health of skin. MVO combines EFA and DHA fatty acids to protect and heal skin while you glow a more radiant youthful complexion!

Overall I am now a huge fan of Marie Veronique Organics! I had never given them a try until recently and now I am hooked! Tell me, have you given MVO products a try!? What did you think of them! Let me know if you have any questions on these two products!

Monday Musings // Quote of the Week

Happy Monday! In honor of bringing in a new week I'd like to start with this quote that emphasizes how we all can get closer to making our dreams a reality. Mondays are typical when people start diets, excersize programs, new jobs or what have you. Its what we do, right?
So its really simple, "Do something" daily that is in line with what it is you want! I honestly believe that the daily choices we make ultimately affect our short or long term goals and our ultimate happiness each and every day! I know I am guilty at times of just living life on auto-pilot, which ultimately has affected my "tomorrow"in some cases. But I really truly try as best as I can to live in the moment and make daily choices to get me closer and closer to my dreams and goals. By doing that simple little act, it is truly life changing. I tend to really focus my intent and daily activities based around 3 main areas of my life: 1.) Parenting; I stay focused, present and remain a positive example to my son 2.) Health; I focus on making healthy food choices and making exercise a daily priority 3.) Work; focusing on accomplishing my "to-dos", staying organized and fitting in a bit of creativity into work everyday.
So there you have it in a tiny nutshell! Tell me, what do you think of today's quote? Do you think we can affect the outcome of our tomorrow by making better choices today? Have a great week!

Ankle Sandal Round-Up (For Under $100!)

Living in Southern California, I am pretty lucky I can wear sandals almost all year round! It gets boring really quick wearing flip flops, and I love dressing my daily casual-wear with chic accessories and shoes! It definitely puts a pep in my step! I am loving the simple elegance of ankle strap sandals with a simple single strap by the toes. They look good with skinny or slim jeans and pants that hit at ankle length (to show off those straps) or look amazing with a pair of shorts or a dress! Plus the flat heel height is comfortable yet stylish to wear! I pulled a round up of some of my favorite ankle sandals that are all under $100 bucks! In my book, thats a win! Like any girl I covet shoes but can't always afford to pay the high price tags! I love the look for less while scoring high on quality and style. Tell me, do you have any ankle sandal favorites? I'd love to hear about them!

Decorating with Brass Urchins

It seems like they are all the rage... Brass Urchins are everywhere! And why not? I think they are a very chic and timeless way to add a bit of glam and sophistication without feeling stuffy or over-the-top. A brass finish will never be tiresome to look at, and the simple clean lines of these modern-done urchins leave us all wanting more. I recently made a purchase at my local Target for some wall urchins. I didn't like the patina they had on them, so I spray painted them in a gold-brass matte finish. I'll be hanging them up soon and post pictures to share on the blog. Today I have some inspirational images for decorating with Urchins. Enjoy! (Select images for proper credits)

I love how this pair of brass urchins dress up this little dining nook
and adds a bit of dimension and curves to the linear lines.

Such a beautiful sculpture! And its handmade! Check out this DIY tutorial here!

I think the chunky brass urchin in this console vignette adds the perfect amount of shimmer and interest, picking up the gold tones of the trunk below.

Urchins three ways here! I am intrigued by the fan idea,
and love the two urchins flanking either side of the nightstand.

Eclectic at its finest! A brass urchin chandelier against De Gournay Wallpaper!

This is a large scale urchin done right! It balances out the modern oversized artwork
while enhancing the golden tones of the chair legs and leopard upholstery.

Monday Musings // Quote of the Week

Happy Monday! Yay for Spring forward time change! I don't know about you, but I enjoy the longer daylight and catching that spring fever while watching the sun go down and its only 8 o'clock! Ok, ok! Back to reality! As I mentioned in my last post, I've been one busy lady but all is well! I am moving in the right direction, and have been able to cross off a ton of major pending items on my list. Such a great feeling! I still have a little ways to go but I am at the point where I see the end in sight, or shall I say the beginning in sight. I felt that todays quote is so fitting to how I feel. I feel like I am chasing happiness, or maybe I am running alongside it? I am an unstoppable woman settling more and more into the happiness that I create with each and every moment of my days. I mean, isn't finding happiness the goal in life? In my opinion, it is. I hope you all have a very HAPPY week!

Checking In

It has been a BUSY BUSY week. I am always a busy lady but this week is already starting to feel long! So I didn't want to leave the blog hanging while I am busy working on a ton of different projects. I hope to be back by Friday with a product review that I've been eager to share, if not then I'll be back next week! Instagram will be documenting my week. Cheers!

Monday Musings // Quote of the Week

Happy first Monday of March! We had a stormy stormy weekend here in Southern California! It was nice though, and we dearly need the rain! So I was a happy girl, literally soaking up the rain!

Over the weekend, when the sun kinda peeped through and the rain seemed to have stopped, I went for what I thought would be a nice little walk with my son and dog. However, we got caught in the rain! Just like that, out of nowhere a strong shower of rain found us and poured with ferocity its water all over. There was nowhere to take cover! I ran stroller in hand, leash and umbrella home, I could hardly see, it was pouring so hard! Somehow (thankfully) my son stayed dry and toasty while my dog and I were left breathless and soaking. Needless to say it gave me a good laugh! Life does that to us right? We get caught by storm in life's little or big things, and sometimes you just have to laugh! I do! Its healing and therapeutic always.

This weeks quote is timeless... Take a bit of time this week to do something that makes your soul happy. Sing, dance, pamper yourself with a facial, cook a yummy dinner, go for a run, whatever it is that suits your fancy. I say just do it! Yesterday evening, I pampered myself with a great movie and a facial with the Problem Solver by May Lindstrom Skin. I feel rejuvenated and ready to start a new week. Have a beautiful one!
