This chevron wall decal is the perfect solution for a stylish non permanent design feature for a small wall or backsplash! I am considering these for my little apartment kitchen! Cute, right?

update: gallery wall

This morning I was organizing my artwork that I've selected to go on our wall in the living room. Right now its pretty bleak! We've been here 4 months and I haven't added anything to our walls! I know, whats wrong with me right? Well, I've been very patient scouring second hand stores, etsy and creating my very own artwork to put onto the wall, so far I think its coming along quite nicely! I hope to put together the look this weekend! Until then...

Santa Barbara Antique & Vintage Show

Happy Saturday! Yesterday evening I attended the Santa Barbara Antique & Vintage show for the very first time! Apparently it takes place here 3 times per year. It was a fun and intriguing experience. I loved looking at all the antique Persian rugs & the Asian artifacts the most; however little trinkets such as original silver and ladies perfume dispensaries were also so hard to resist drooling over. There was so much to look at and all displayed so nicely, I will definitely attend again! Here are some photos I quickly snapped while there. Enjoy the rest of the beautiful weekend!

Photobucket

lovely linens, silver & porcelain goods. what a lovely display with the crab-apples and blossom branches!

Photobucket

pretty china! especially liked the blue, white & gold teacup and saucer.

Photobucket

I love these Chinese Calligraphy Brushes!

I really enjoyed these displays by a company called: The Brothers of Industry. They are based locally out of Carpinteria, CA. I have to say it was such a find to have stumbled upon another company based in custom design, as that is so rare in this area. They fix up antique lighting or create something entirely new off of their findings, other services they provide are furniture and antiques.

DIY: How to Gold Leaf A Lamp!

It all started with this inspiration photo below, I love gold and brass type of finishes. I looked and looked everywhere for floor lamps in this particular design with a gold finish. I found plenty of them, but all were out of my budget! Of course, right? So I thought to get crafty, roll up my sleeves and put a bit of time and effort into a DIY project. It was so worth doing! I had fun and the end result is very rewarding. I sit on my sofa sometimes and admire the lamps. Here's the tutorial, enjoy!

I bought 2 of these lamps from Ikea with coordinating shades for $24.99 a pop!
Nice, simple, but so unoriginal!

Materials used:
1. Gold Leaf Paper
2. Gold Leaf Adhesive
3. Soft Sponge Brush
4. Scissors
5. Wax Paper
6. Gold Leaf Sealant (not shown in picture)
All Materials were purchased from my local craft store.

Day 1:
1. Start with a clean palette. I cleaned my floor lamps with a bit of water and vinegar to get any grime off, then dry them.

2. Lay down a surface to work on that you're going to want to toss away after you've finished! I used a shopping bag with a couple of sheets of wax paper above. (I found that wax paper doesn't stick to the adhesive)

3. Once the lamp is clean and dry apply the Gold Leaf Adhesive with the soft sponge brush; the adhesive should look milky white on the surface, and make sure there aren't any bubbles!

4. Let your product air dry for about 15-30 minutes before applying the leaf. The goal is for the surface to feel sticky and tacky to the touch, not wet.

Photobucket

1. Start Applying the Gold Leaf paper.

2. Apply in a clockwise direction

3. Use a small sheet of wax paper to smooth the leaf into the surface
(hint: don't use your hands! gold leaf is really delicate and rips very easy, so for a smoother finish, buff into the gold leaf with the wax as your are applying. I set aside about 10 small sheets of precut wax paper near where I was working so I always had a clean sheet of wax paper to use as I went along.)

Photobucket

1.Leave a bit of excess gold leaf around the areas you applied the leaf.

2.Set your product aside and let it sit and dry over night.

3. Its going to look messy and quite strange having bits of gold lead dangling off your lamp
but trust me, when you come back to your product the next day you to finish the product, you will have a beautiful result!

Day 2:

1. Take a clean sheet of wax paper and buff off any remaining pieces of gold leaf

2. Spray or Paint Gold Leaf Sealant

3. Set your product aside and allow the sealant to cure overnight

Photobucket

voila!!! the finished product!

Photobucket

Overall the project was quite easy. All you need is patience and clean surface to work with. I am still undecided about adding black ribbon trim as shown in my inspiration picture above, but for now I am so happy with my custom gold leaf floor lamps!

I am also loving my new Nate Berkus Hurricane Candle Holders! Look at my little Rigby, isn;t he so photogenic?

Quote of the Week

Over this lovely weekend I had a spontaneous idea to paint the backsplash of my kitchen CORAL! I received many compliments that it was a brave move! and it was! Suffice to say, I painted it and hated it... I ended up painting it back to its original color what it looked like before my crazy makeover idea. Sadly, I didn't photograph this event, but I definitely could relate to the quote below, as stated by the lovely Ms. Draper. Have a good day!

" You can never judge a paint hue by the liquid color in the paint pot. You must apply it to a wall, wait for the paint to dry, then decide." - Dorothy Draper

coral jeans

I am so loving coral jeans! I originally liked this hot trend, wearing bright and bold colored jeans and pants seen in red or royal blue, but now! Now, I officially am in love... with these jeans! Coral is one of my absolute favorite colors, and I try to find it in pieces I'd love to wear and live in! These are such a staple piece to add to the wardrobe! I know its "in" for Spring, but personally, I'd wear these fabulous statement makers any time of year! Here are a few I found browsing around. Now...Off to go get myself a pair!
